Why Five Minutes Flat
When K was almost 2 years old, Q and I decided that we would not send her to playgroup or preschool but homeschool her instead. It was not that daunting a task for me as I used to teach children in the ages of 2-7 years. I started off trying to do 3-4 activities a day but realised that I could not sustain that in the long run and felt very burnt out after a week or two. I often went days or weeks without doing anything meaningful after a day or two filled with planned activities. The idea of homeschooling started to drain me and I felt so burdened by it. Then, I realised that consistently doing one activity a day was better than 3-4 on one and then none for the next week. In the course of it all, I also met many other parents who wanted to homeschool their kids but had no idea how to begin or felt they didn't have the ability to.
The purpose of this blog is not only to share ideas and resources with parents or caregivers who desire to have that daily meaningful contact with their child. We also talk about the problems you encounter and what you can do when you face those problems.
Every activity here requires minimal prep work, and most of them will use items you should already be able to find at home or is easily found in supermarkets or the local bookstore.
Every activity here requires minimal prep work, and most of them will use items you should already be able to find at home or is easily found in supermarkets or the local bookstore.
Each activity also only requires approximately 5 minutes of your undivided attention with your child and is easy enough to pull out whenever you find yourself with that 5 minutes to spare. Each post has an introduction to the activity, a Q&A section where we talk about the most common issues faced when doing the activity, followed by the activity how to.
Do feel free to comment and leave further questions for us if you encounter any other issues that were not addressed in the Q&A section or if you thoroughly enjoyed the activity!
