Letter P Unit

All the activities in this unit have one thing in common, they are about items that start with the letter P. This is by no means a comprehensive list of activities. It's just some of the things I have tried with K and N myself which they have enjoyed. I have attached a few printables I created and used for this unit. Feel free to print them!

This post is curriculum based but it can be done by SAHMs and working parents alike. All activities here take 5 minutes or less to carry out from start to end. They also involve very little preparatory work. Give them a try and let me know what you think 😉

1. P is for Popcorn

Materials:
- Microwave popcorn packet (NTUC sells one for $1.95)
- Microwave

How to:
- Simply pop the packet into the microwave as per packet instructions
- Open and enjoy!

Pro tips:
- Did you know that heat causes the popcorn kernels turn inside out to become popcorn? I didn't!
- See if you can find popcorn in the different stages of popping and line them up!

2. P is for Pompoms

Materials:
- Pompoms
- Plastic bin
- Sensory bin play tools (e.g. tongs, scoops, cups)

How to:
- Display and play!

Pro tips:
- For a more structured activity, place coloured paper on the bottom of muffin cups and get your kids to put pompoms matching the colour
- Another idea: sort by size and teach big and small.. if you need something more challenging, do big-medium-small

3. P is for Pizza

Materials:
- Pizza bases (you can use wraps for a super thin crust or bread for a thicker crust)
- Tomato paste
- Pizza cheese
- Whatever other ingredients you like
- Oven

How to:
- Spread tomato paste onto the base
- Let kids pile on the ingredients!
- Bake and enjoy!

Pro tips:
- Don't worry about kids 'messing up'. Pizza is pretty easy to undo and redo. Our boys piled too much in the middle and we simply spread it out after they were done and ran off to play.
- This is a good time to hide veges! For particularly vege adversed kids, chopped spinach can be premixed into the tomato paste before you spread it on. They won't see if and won't taste it at all.

4. P is for Parrot

Materials:
- Parrot Printout
- Coloured paper
- Scissors
- Glue

How to:
- Cut coloured paper into shapes for the parrot (I attached a template in the printables if it is needed)
- Paste the coloured paper to make a parrot

Pro tips:
- Stick the tail part first, then the body and the lastly the wings.
- You can use googly eyes but I decided to let the kids personalise this piece with their own idea of an 'eye'.
